Images of War and Peace

The images in this section show what the world is like during both war and peace.

Portraying images of war is quite simple, we are all aware of them. It’s easy to show soldiers, explosions, bombed-out cities, bodies, fires, etc. That’s partly because during war, disruption, fear, isolation, suffering and chaos ruin lives.

It’s much harder to illustrate peace. What the images here try to show is that peace means that we are able to continue with our everyday lives. There can be markets stalls with food, people going about their normal business, nature at its best, people working together, all the things we take for granted during peacetime.
